Leancia shares her story on why she is going to Uganda this May…
Because I believe it is the right of every child to be educated regardless of their background or economic status, I am putting my belief into action and travelling to Uganda for 15 days to help build a school. I made a decision that in 2014 I was going to be more deliberate and intentional with my time; this includes who I spend it with and what I do with it.
Having the opportunity to travel and make a small difference in someone’s life is most definitely worth my time, love and energy. Am I nervous? Absolutely! I have never been to Uganda before and the negative things you hear in the media definitely don’t help (whether it’s hyped nonsense or not). I am slightly apprehensive about the living conditions, but I have roughed it before so I’m not that worried. The only thing that I would say that I’m really concerned about is the food, I’m not adventurous when it comes to trying things I’ve never had before. However, my conviction is so much stronger than my fear or the home comforts that I know I will miss terribly lol. I expect to meet some amazing people and learn what it means to serve and be generous.
I believe you learn the most from those that have the least about what generosity and servant-hood really is. I expect that myself and the team will come back changed, transformed and happy knowing that we had the best experience of our lives making a difference in someone else’s as well as the impact Ugandans will have in my life.
